a²+b²=c²

42²+b²= 83²

b²=83²-42²

b²=5125

b=√5125

b=71.59 meters

After travelling 83 meters, the plane will have cleared about 72 meters of the tower.

The remaining meters to clear the height of tower is: 98-72= 27 meters
