Since Abe intends to plant the the same number of trees in different rows and each row must not consist of different one type of tree i.e. it must consist of only a type of tree

The interpretation of this is that;

He can either plant only oak trees in a row or only pine trees in a row but not both.

So, to solve this, we'll take the highest common factor (hcf) of both number of trees (27 and 54)

27 = 3 * 3 * 3

54 = 2 * 3 * 3 * 3

Hcf = 3*3*3

Hcf = 27

The greatest number of trees Abe can have in each row is 27
