We can divide this shape to a rectangle and a trapezoid (as shown in attachment). So the area of this shape is a sum of areas of the rectangle (red) and the trapezoid (green).

Area of the rectangle: a × b

a = 3.5

b = 9

a × b = 3,5 × 9 = 31.5 [u²]

Area of the trapezoid: (a + b)h/2

a = 9

b = 9 - 2 - 5 = 2

h = 2

(a + b)h/2 = (9 + 2) × 2/2 = 11 × 1 = 11 [u²]

So the area of that shape is:

31.5 + 11 = 42,5 units²

Answer:

42.5

Explanation:

The entire rectangle, including the folded-back corners, is 9.0 x 5.5

So, its area would be 49.5

Now subtract the areas of the two triangles: 2 + 5 = 7
