Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation

This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames
of withering injustice. (1) It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.
(2) But 100 years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the
manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination (3) Malcolm X is a Negro (4) One hundred years later, the Negro is
still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. And so we've come here today
to dramatize a shameful condition.

Sentence marked 3, 'Malcolm X is a Negro,' does not belong in the paragraph as it is contextually irrelevant to the rest of Martin Luther King Jr.'s points in that section of his speech.

The sentence that does not belong in the paragraph quoted from Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech is sentence marked 3: "Malcolm X is a Negro." This sentence stands out as irrelevant to the context of the paragraph, which discusses the historical signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, the ongoing effects of segregation and discrimination on Black Americans 100 years later, and the reason for King's speech at the March on Washington. While the other sentences flow together to support King's narrative of continued struggle for freedom and equality, the statement about Malcolm X serves no purpose in the progression of arguments within this excerpt and interrupts the cohesive message about civil rights. The sentence that does not belong in the paragraph is (c) Sentence marked 3: 'Malcolm X is a Negro.' This sentence does not fit in the context because it does not contribute to the discussion of the Emancipation Proclamation, the condition of African Americans, or the purpose of the gathering.
