The Apollo’s Chariot, a rollercoaster at Busch Gardens, moves at 110 feet per second. The equation of the ride can be represented by the equation h=-16t^2+101t+10. What is the maximum height reached by this ride?

The maximum height reached by the ride is 169.39 feet.

Solution:

Given equation:

h=-16 t^(2)+101 t+10

Here, vertex = 101.

$\text{Time}=\frac{-\text{vertex}}{2(-16)}

$=(-101)/(-32)

Time = 3.15625

t = 3.15625 sec

Substitute this in height equation.

h=-16 (3.15625 )^(2)+101 (3.15625 )+10

= –159.39 + 318.78 + 10

= 169.39

h = 169.39 feet

The maximum height reached by the ride is 169.39 feet.
