of a rectangle with fractional side lengths.

Explanation:

Let the dimensions of a rectangle are all whole numbers, a by b.

Therefore, the area of the rectangle is given by, A = ab.

And, another rectangle with dimensions all fractions say,
(p)/(q) by
(m)/(n).

{The fractions may be a proper or improper fraction}

So, the area of the rectangle for this rectangle will be
A' = (p)/(q) * (m)/(n) = (pm)/(qn).

Therefore, in both cases we have to multiply the length and the width of the rectangle to get the area. (Answer)
