Answer:

14 books

Explanation:

A bookcase has two shelves

Top shelf ; &

Bottom shelf.

Let top shelf be = p

Bottom shelf be = q

Top shelf has 10 more than 1/3 of books on bottom shelf

i.e if q = x

p =
(1)/(3) of x + 10

there are 12 books on the bottom shelf

So x = 12

p =
(1)/(3)(12) + 10

p = 4 + 10

p = 14

Therefore, there are 14 books on the top shelf
