A stick 2m long is placed vertically at point b .The top of the stick in the ls in line with the top of a tree as seen from point a .Which is 3m from a stick and 30 m from the tree how tall is the tree

I have prepared the diagram below for reference

Let |BC| be the length of the stick and |DE| the length of the tree.

We use the idea of similar traingles,


(|BC|)/(|DE|) = (|AB|)/(|AE|)

|BC|=2m, |AB|=3m AND |AE|=30m


(2)/(|DE|) = (3)/(20)

We cross multiply

|DE| X 3 = 2 X 30


|DE| = (30 X 2)/(3) = 20 metres

Therefore, the height of the tree is 20 metres
