We know that Colleen bough 8 kg of apples and 2.5 kg of pears.

In order to find the DIFFERENCE in the amount that she bought, we SUBTRACT.

8 - 2.5 = 6.5 kg.

We can see that she bought 6.5 more kilograms of apples than pears.
