The Coke company started changing its original formula because, people started liking the "sweet taste of rival Pepsi-cola" and Coke company went into huge loss of shares(In 1985). So they changed their formula and released "New Coke".

But "New coke" was not liked by many of the coke fans and within 3 months the coke company used the initial formula of preparing soft drinks and released in the name "Coca-Cola Classic".
