Explanation: Goods are considered to be rival in consumption if one person's use of that commodity either reduces another person's chance of using it or totally stops another person from using it. This commodity might be either durable, non durable, tangible or non tangible.

For example If a person is using a screwdriver, that usage reduce the chance of another person using that particular screwdriver at that time which makes it durable because it can still be reused after the first user might have finished his work but when a person uses a commodity such as bread, that person usage stops another person totally from using that bread which makes it non durable because the first user finishes it's use.
