The equation used to find the distance, r, between him and the basket is:

tan\ 60 = (r)/(5)\ meters

Solution:

Given that,

Jaime is playing disc golf

He is standing across a creek from the basket at a 60° angle

Let "r" be the distance between him and the basket

The figure is attached below

From figure, it is a right angled triangle

By definition of tan,

tan\ 60 = (opposite)/(adjacent)

From figure,

opposite = r

adjacent = 5 m

tan\ 60 = (r)/(5)

Thus the equation used to find the distance, r, between him and the basket is found

Jaime is playing disc golf. He is standing across a creek from the basket at a 60° angle-example-1
