Answer Trading slaves in Texas

Explanation: Empresario is a Spanish word for entrepreneur, An empresario was a person who had been granted the right to settle on land in exchange for recruiting and taking responsibility for settling the eastern areas in the nineteenth century. They encouraged the spread of slavery by attracting immigrant from mostly the southern United States to Texas. Slavery was however banned in Mexico in the year 1836.

The Mexican law required immigrants to practice Catholicism and stressed that foreigners needed to learn the Spanish language. Immigrant were supposed to own a property or have a craft or useful profession, however, the rules were widely disregarded as many families became squatters.
