The order of operations says that operations must be done in the following order: parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction. You can also create a little phrase to go along with this, like "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally." Whatever you choose, make sure that you know all six steps of the order of operations very well. The order of operations tells us the order to solve steps in expressions with more than one operation. First, we solve any operations inside of parentheses or brackets. Second, we solve any exponents. Third, we solve all multiplication and division from left to right.
