Answer: 9 inches

Explanation:

Since it is enlarged , the new shape is still similar to the former one. If two shapes are similar , then the ratio of their length will be equal.

Length of the original shape = 8 inches

width = 6 inches

Length of the new shape = 12 inches

Width = x inches

following the rule of similar shape , we have :

(8)/(6)=(12)/(x)

multiply both sides by
(6)/(8) , we have

(8)/(6)((6)/(8)) = (12)/(x)((6)/(8))

1 = (72)/(8x)

8x = 72

divide through by 8

x = 9
