2(3)/(10) inches of snow is left

Solution:

Given that,

From given,

Original\ amount\ of\ snow = 5(8)/(10)\ inches = (10 * 5 + 8)/(10) = (58)/(10)\ inches

Sun\ melted = 3(1)/(2)\ inches = (2 * 3 + 1)/(2) = (7)/(2)\ inches

how many inches of snow is left

Snow left = original amount of snow - sun melted

Snow\ left = (58)/(10) - (7)/(2)\\\\Snow\ left = (58)/(10) - (7 * 5)/(2 * 5)\\\\Snow\ left = (58)/(10) - (35)/(10)\\\\Snow\ left = (58 - 35)/(10)\\\\Snow\ left = (23)/(10)\\\\\In\ mixed\ fractions\\\\Snow\ left = 2(3)/(10)

Thus
2(3)/(10) inches of snow is left
