let us take 5 data between 5 and 15 ;

5, 9, 10, 12, 14

here the mean is =
(5+9+10+12+14)/(5) = 10

the deviation of each data from is (take absolute value i.e non negative) :

5-10 = 5

9-10 = 1

10-10 =0

12-10 = 2

14-10= 4

now adding the differences form mean:

5+1+0+2+4 = 12

Mean absolute deviation is:
(12)/(5) = 2.4

Hence the MAD for our assumed data between 5 and 15 with mean 10 is 2.4
