Is negative 2.5 greater than positive 2.5

No, it is not. You can graph it on a line plot, and you can see it's on the left, whereas the positive is on the right. The farther a negative number is from 0, the smaller of a number it is. The Positive Numbers are always greater than negatives. Unless you have a variable or something that's going to change the negative number, Positives are always greater.
