In class we found the perimeter and area of rectangles and triangles. We have a triangle with sides (2x + 5), (x + 8) and (7x).

1. (15 points) Explain how you find the perimeter of a triangle.
2. (5 points) What is the perimeter of the triangle with sides given above. Show and explain each step. Make certain to simplify your answer.

10x+13

Explanation:

Step 1:

1)

The perimeter of any given triangle is the sum of all its sides.

For example if we have a triangle with sides x,y,z then the perimeter of this triangle can be obtained by taking the sum of the sides. So in this case , the perimeter would be x+ y+ z

Step 2:

Given that the sides of the triangle are 2x+5 , x+8 , 7x

To find the perimeter of this triangle we need to sum the given sides.

This would be

2x+5+x+8+7x = 10x + 13

So the perimeter of the given triangle is 10 x + 13
