New Train Routes Tout Increased Ridership

As a citizen of this fair city, I recently had the pleasure of riding our new Orange Line from Market Square to Ambridge. Although I have ridden the Yellow Line and Blue Line on occasion, I felt the Orange Line train was the most comfortable and punctual of any of the public trains currently running. And with such an inexpensive ticket cost, the train system is a great program.
During my ride, the train was packed with riders. They all seemed to be very pleased with the train service. So, I wasn't surprised to read the recent report that showed public train ridership in our area increased by a promising 30% since the Orange Line opened just one month ago. Some ignorant critics of our city's public transportation system have attempted to cut funding for the train system; however, the increased ridership numbers should show everyone the importance of our train system. This past month, in fact, was the first time in two years that the train system produced a profit. And with a record amount of annual passes sold, we can be confident that steady ridership will not only continue, but will increase.
Public transportation is a necessary feature of every city. Not only can public transportation improve the economy by allowing more people to have access to shopping areas, but public transportation also reduces air pollution. With fewer people driving their own cars, air pollution will decrease in our city. Also, our public transportation system has created hundreds of jobs such as bus drivers, train conductors, safety officers, cashiers, and countless other professions. Our public transportation system helps make our city a proud city.
The success of the Orange Line should show everyone that the public train system in our city is here to stay. Not only that, the Orange Line's success shows that the train system needs to be expanded. Although the Purple Line is still being planned, the continued success of the Orange Line demonstrates the need for further development and expansion. The Purple Line would be the next best addition to our train system. Let's focus on success by expanding our city's public transportation system.
