2 sets (types) of questions (Closed-ended and Open-ended) used when conducting market research. What are the implications in using these 2 different types of questions as it relates to the research process? (Hint: Think of the entire research process, not just on the collection phase). When would you use one or the other? You may want to use examples to clarify your answer.

Answer:(1) The researcher obtain the relevant fact about the research and it makes the researcher to have a high sense of confidence about the research thereby making the result reliable. (2) Open ended is used when the researcher want to allow the respondent to make remark freely, while closed ended is used when responses expected from the respondent are pre-determined.

Step-by-step explanation:

Open ended question : This is a type of question in which a researcher included in the question a space in which the researcher is expecting the respondents to fill in his opinion regarding the question asked the respondents by the researcher.

Closed ended question : This is a type of question in which the researcher gives option to the respondents in which the respondents are expected to choose from in answering the question asked them by the researchers. However, the implication of using these 2 different types of question is that it enables the researchers to obtain the exact fact that such researchers needed in the market research. It also enables the researcher to have a high sense of confidence on the market research thereby making the result of his research a reliable one.

The open ended question is used when researcher want to allow the respondent to freely make remark, while a closed ended question is used when responses expected from the respondents are pre- determined.

Answer:

Open ended questions are questions such that, they prompt a unique response from respondents for many reasons. Typically, Open ended questions are used by the researcher to get qualitative information about the area of interest.

The implications of using an open ended questions is that it allows wide range of unlimited answers and always unravel the way the respondent think about the topic or question.

An open ended type of question is always difficult to collate because of the difference of view of respondents.

While closed ended questions are questions such that, they prompt fixed numbers of answers. The researcher gives the respondents a range from which to choose from (could be yes or no type of questions, etc.) It is made up of a question stem and a set of answer choices (the response alternatives).

Collating the results from this type of questionnaire is not always difficult because of its limited range of answers.

It's is advised to make use of open ended question when the researcher is interested in having varieties of answers by allowing respondents to include more information, including feelings, attitudes and understanding of the subject. This allows researchers to better access the respondents' true feelings on an issue.

It is advised to make use of close ended questions when the researcher is only interested in having limited number of the answers and the research may not offer the respondents choices that actually reflect their real feelings.

Example.of open ended questions is

What were the most important factors that contribute to economic stability?

Example of close ended questions is

Do your company offer training on cash management?
