To a(n) ________, breaking promises is wrong because if the implied rule were universalized (if everyone followed the rule), then no promise anywhere could be trusted and the whole convention of promise making would be obliterated. Thus no one would be willing to live in such a world.

Answer: Kantian

Explanation: The Kantian theory developed by Immanuel Kant argued that the ultimate principle of morality that is whether an action, behavior or conduct is right or wrong isn't based on our on personal or natural satisfaction, inclination or intuition but based on an unconditional principle which is rational and can be universalized. Kant called this rational and unconditional principle the categorical imperative. Kant maintained that rules or commands based on standard principle of categorical imperative are rational and all immoral action or behavior will contradict the principle of categorical imperative.

In the scenario above, the Kantian theory deems breaking the rule as immoral since it violates the principle of categorical imperative.
