x = 23/9

y = 1/9

Explanation:

2x - y + y - 5 = 5 + y - 5

2x - 5 = y

3x + 3(2x - 5) = 8

3x + 6x - 15 = 8

9x/9 = 23/9

x = 23/9

2x - 5 = y

2(23/9) - 5 = y

46/9 - 5 = y

1/9 = y
