Weight is 1.7 × 10^5 kg

Explanation:

  • Step 1: Given that the weight of the blue whale = 170 tonnes
  • Step 2: Convert the number of tonnes into kg.

⇒ 170 tonnes = 170 × 1000 (1 tonne = 1000 kg)

⇒ 170 tonnes = 17 × 10^4 kg

  • Step 3: Convert it into standard format, that is with just one decimal point.

⇒ 17 × 10^4 = 1.7 × 10^5 kg (Dividing and multiplying by 10 on both sides)
