Answer: The constitution divided the Government into three branches. The president in the executive branch can veto a law, but the legislative branch can override that veto with enough votes.

Checks and balance are various procedures set in place to reduce mistakes, prevent improper behavior, or decrease the potential risk of centralization of power. The United States for instance operates checks and balance through its branches. Checks and balances are practiced by the United state in the following ways, The legislative arm of the US government makes laws, while the executive gives veto power to the president, allowing the president to keep the legislative arm in check. For example, president Trump declared a national emergency on 15th February 2019 in an attempt to free up funds for a proposed border wall , after a failed efforts to get the funds approved by the legislative branch.

The legislative arm has the power to approve or disapprove presidential nominations, control the country’s budget , and can impeach the president from the office.
