Answer:

The question appears to be incomplete. The complete question is stated below:

Consider a survey conducted on computer gamers in a certain country. One aspect of the survey is to determine the time of gaming per day in a particular country. Complete parts (a) through (f). a) What is the population of interest for this portion of the survey? A. All gamers of the country

B. All gamers of the world C. All people in the country D. The time of gaming

(b) What is the variable of interest for this portion of the survey? A. Gamers

B. Number of all people in the country C. Time of gaming per day D. All gamers of the country

(c) Is the variable qualitative or quantitative? A. Quantitative B. Qualitative

(d) What is the level of measurement for the variable? A. Interval B. Nominal

C. Ratio D. Ordinal (e) Is a census feasible in this situation? A. No B. Yes

(f) Is a sample feasible in this situation? A. Yes B. No

Answer:

a. All gamers of the country (A)

b. Time of gaming per day (C)

c. Quantitative (A)

d. Interval (A)

e. Yes (B)

f. Yes (A)

Step-by-step explanation:

Just as the question is divided into parts, let me divide the answers into parts too

a. The population in a survey is the target group on which the study will be carried out. For example, " a study to determine the prevalent of prostrate cancer in a city " here, the population will be men of reproductive age, because women do not have prostrates. Now, back to our example, the population of interest is all computer gamers in the country, anyone who has not played a game before or has not played a computer game in a very long time and computer gamers outside the country are excluded from the research.

b. A variable can be defined as the aspect of the study that can change and has quantity or quality or both. In this study, the variable of interest is the time of gaming per day, because it can be quantitative say 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours etc. and it can vary from one gamer to the other and from one day to another for example the gaming time can be longer on weekends than weekdays, and longer within a certain age group of gamers that another.

c. Let me explain what quantitative and qualitative variables are:

a quantitative variable is a variable that can have a numerical value. That is it has magnitude, and arithmetic operations can be performed on these variables example is height ( 1 meter, 2 meters etc,), while qualitative variables are variables that are non numerical, they can only be categorized, hence they are also called categorical variables. Example is seed color ( green, blue, red etc).

d. The various levels of measurement of variables include; nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio:

nominal level of measurement: here, the numbers in the variables are used to classify the data into different categories. For example, if there data belonging to three different marital categories, the categories can be grouped as; Married (M), Single (S) or divorced (D)

ordinal level of measurement: this level of measurement is used to show a ranking or a level of an ordered relationship among the data categories. Example is a group of data showing the animals in the food chain, omnivores can be ordered as top, the carnivores which are next can be ordered as middle, while the herbivores can be ordered or ranked as bottom.

interval level of measurement: here, the level of measurement in addition to classifying and ordering, also specifies the distances and equivalence between the intervals on a scale stating them as low interval to high interval, and very important in this level of measurement is that they cannot have a zero value. In our example a time of gaming per day between 5am to 7am represents 2 hours and it is the same as a gaming time of 8pm - 10pm, and there is no zero gaming time because anyone with a gaming time of zero is not a gamer.

ratio level of measurement: in the zero level of measurement, there is a similarity to the interval level of measurement in having equal intervals, but in addition, there can be a zero interval as well. In the ratio level of measurement, the divisions between the point on the scale has equal intervals between them.

e. In surveys, a census is a wholesome representation of the population of interest. In this case it is possible to get data from every single gamer in the country so a census is feasible in this situation.

f. Sampling is the selection of a subset out of a population whose image can experimentally represent the whole population. For example in our study, instead of taking data from every single gamer in the country, a certain number of gamer can be recruited from each state in the country and they will effectively have represented every gamer in the country as long as it is from every region withing the country and the results gotten are extrapolated to represent every gamer in the country which will be statistically accurate. So yes, a sample is feasible in this situation.
