A person argues that if the prison sentences for all crimes were doubled, this would worsen the problem of overcrowded prisons, all other things being equal. Use the concept of demand to explain why this argument is incorrect

Answer: The principle of demand states that as the PRICE of a good, service or commodity increases, the DEMAND decreases.

For example, a consumer will likely buy two loaves of bread for $50, than one loaf for $40.

To the question, if all crimes sentences were doubled, ( increase in the price of good) the crime rate will decrease ( demand for crimes). This in essence will discourage from committing crimes, thereby making prisons less crowded. In conclusion, based on the concept of demand, this argument is incorrect.

Answer:INCREASE IN THE PRISON SENTENCES WILL LEAD TO REDUCTION IN CRIMES COMMITTED.

Explanation: The law of Demand states that if all other factors remains the same AN INCREASE IN PRICE WHICH IN THIS CASE IS THE DOUBLED PRISON SENTENCE FIR ALL CRIMES IT WILL LEAD TO REDUCTION IN DEMAND(PRISONS)

Which means it will lead to a reduction in the crimes committed by criminals and the prison will not be over crowded,PEOPLE WILL AVOID CRIMES BECAUSE THEY CANT AFFORD TO SPEND A LONG TIME IN THE PRISON.
