In the livingroom of your house you would like to run a 360 W stereo, a 30 W computer, a 1200 W laser light projector, and three 120 W lights. Assuming your house is wired for 120 Volts, how much current will be pulled by these electrical devices?

Answer:

16.25A

Step-by-step explanation:

Power (P) is related to current(I) and Voltage (V) as follows;

P = I x V ----------------(i)

That means that power is the product of current and voltage. It is measured in Watts(W).

Given;

360W stereo

30W computer

1200W laser light projector

three 120W light bulbs

From the given data, we can calculate the total power(P) consumed as follows;

P = 360W + 30W + 1200W + (3 x 120W)

P = 1950W

Also, as stated in the question, the house is wired for 120Volts.

Therefore we can calculate the current that will be pulled by these devices by substituting P = 1950W, V=120V into equation(i) above;

=> P = I x V

=> 1950 = I x 120

Solve for I;

I = 1950 / 120

I = 16.25A

Therefore, the current pulled is 16.25A

Answer: current = 16.25A

Step-by-step explanation:

Stereo = 360w, computer = 30w, laser light projector = 1200w, 3 120w- lights = 3 * 120 = 360w

Total power = 360 + 30 + 1200 + 360 = 1950W.

Voltage across the mains = 120v.

Power = current * voltage

1950 = current * 120

current = 1950/120

current = 16.25 A
