Answer:

Just like the previous answer stated, you must find common denominators to answer. However, that is just part of it.

Note that when you are finding a common denominator, you must multiply what you multiplied to the denominator to the numerator as well. Then, add across. Also note that when adding, you are only adding the numbers of the numerator, the denominator stays the same. For example:

1 4/10 + 3 2/5 = 14/10 + 17/5 = 14/10 + (17/5)(2/2) = 14/10 + 34/10 = 48/10.

48/10 = 4 8/10
