Every Saturday night, four good friends get together. When Jerry, Mike, and Pat arrived, Karen was sitting in her living room writing some notes. She quickly gathered the cards and stood up to greet her friends at the door. They followed her into the living room, but as usual, they couldn't agree on exactly what to play. Jerry eventually took a stand and set things up. Finally, they began to play. Karen's recorder filled the room with soft and pleasant music. Early in the evening, Mike noticed Pat's hand and the many diamonds. As the night progressed, the tempo of play increased. Finally, a lull in activities occurred. Taking advantage of this, Jerry pondered the arrangement in front of him. Mike interrupted. Jerry said, "Let’s hear the score." They listened carefully and commented on their performance. When the comments were all heard, exhausted but happy, Karen’s friends went home.

Final answer:

The friends in 'Every Saturday Night' seem to be engaged in a card game, indicated by references to cards, hands, diamonds, setting up for a game, and discussing scores. My personal experience with card games helped in interpreting these clues.

Step-by-step explanation:

Interpretation of 'Every Saturday Night'

The friends in the story 'Every Saturday Night' seem to be playing a card game. This can be inferred from several clues within the text, such as Karen gathering the cards, noticing Pat's hand and the mention of diamonds (which could relate to the suit in a card game), and Jerry setting things up, which could imply organizing the card game. Additionally, the request to hear the score and comments on performance suggest a game where points or scores are important.

My background knowledge that informed this interpretation includes understanding common leisure activities among friends, such as card games, which are often accompanied by music to create a relaxing atmosphere. Personal experience with card games, which often include moments of increased tempo of play and periods where players assess their positions, also influenced my understanding.

Answer: 1) They are definitely playing music cards in the story.

2) I have sound knowledge that it is the game like solitaire games but I have never played this game.

Explanation: The clues that lead me to think that they're playing card games are; when Karen's friends arrived at her home, she collected the cards and then after deciding, they turned the music on.
