The indicator on the oil tank in my home indicated that the tank was one-eighth

full. After a truck delivered 240 gallons of oil, the indicator showed that the tank
was a quarter full. How many gallons were initially in the tank?

Answer:

320

Explanation:

A quarter means 1/4 of the tank was remaining. This means that 240 is 3/4.

240=3/4x

960=3x

x=320
