Answer:

Was not Jesus an extremist for love: "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you." Was not Amos an extremist for justice: "Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever flowing stream." Was not Paul an extremist for the Christian gospel: "I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus." Was not Martin Luther an extremist: "Here I stand; I cannot do otherwise, so help me God."

Step-by-step explanation:

In this excerpt, King compares himself with Jesus, by referring to what Jesus preached, so he can make the clergy understand his fight and his beliefs. This analogy expresses his similarity with the very powerful figure, in order to draw the attention of the audience and make them understand his visions. Jesus is a universal symbol of love, equality, sharing, and sacrifice, so he uses Jesus' name to show them that he is doing the same thing that Jesus did.

This allusion could be the most effective one because of the strong connection he makes between himself and Jesus to convince the Clergy that his beliefs and ideas are not bad, as he fights for humanity, that is for all the people affected by racial segregation.
