Solve for x:

-8x -14 = 7(-2-4x) +4

I haven’t worked these in over three decades so seem to be forgetting something important. Trying to help my daughter.

Answer:

x=8/5

Explanation:

All right, this is a basic algebra problem and the goal is to isolate x.

First you distribute: -8x-14=-14-28x+4

Then, combine like terms: -8x-14=-10-28x

Add 28x and add 14 to both sides to isolate x: 20x=4

Now divide by 20 on both sides: x=4/20 or 1/5
