How do I work this equation to determine if it is a solution

Answer: Yes, it is a solution

Explanation:

So in the parenthesis, 4 is x and 5 is y, since x comes before the y. Plug the 4 in where the x is, and the 5 where the y is, and you should get 5= 12-7. 12-7 does equal 5, therefore it is a solution :)
