Answer:

given ,

a point , let's say , A( 1 , 4 ) on the cartesion plane.

to find - the horizontal distance of the point from the origin.

\underline\bold{using \: Distance \: formula \:} \\ \\ d(AO) = \sqrt{( x_(2) - x_(1)) {}^(2) +( y_(2) - y_(1)) {}^(2) } \\ \\ d(AO) = \sqrt{(1 - 0) {}^(2) + (4 - 0) {}^(2) } \\ \\ d(AO) = √(1 + 4) \\ \\ d(AO) = √(5) units

hope helpful :D
