Step 1) add 5 to the other side of the equation (5+-1)=4 x/3=4
Step 2) multiply both sides of the equation by 3 to get x by itself 3•4= 12
Step 3) check your answer 12/3 - 5 =-1

Step 1) add 5 to the other side of the equation, ex: x/3=-1+5 —> x/3=4
Step 2) divide 4 by 3 to get x by itself, ex: x=4/3
Step 3) simplify if needed or turn to decimal form, ex: x=1 1/3, or x=1.33333
