Attempt 3 You attach a meter stick to an oak tree, such that the top of the meter stick is 2.07 meters above the ground. Later, an acorn falls from somewhere higher up in the tree. If the acorn takes 0.196 seconds to pass the length of the meter stick, how high above the ground was the acorn before it fell, assuming that the acorn did not run into any branches or leaves on the way down

Answer:2.944m

Explanation:The top of the metre stick is 2.07 m above the ground

the length of the metre stick is 1 metre the

bottom of the metre stick is 2.07 - 1 m above the ground

the bottom of the metre stick is 1.07 metres above the ground

Let U = initial velocity

Let S1= distance the acorn fell through the metre rule= 1m

Let S2=distance the acorn fell from the tree to the top of the metre rule

Let t= time acorn fell through the metre rule=0.196sec

Let g= 9.8 m/s^2

S1=Ut + 1/2gt^2

1=0.196×U + ½×9.8×0.196×0.196

1=0.196U +0.1882

1-0.1882=0.196U

0.196U=0.8118

U=4.142m/s.

Initial velocity of the acorn=0, velocity of acorn falling through=U=4.142m/s

V^2=U^2 +2g •S2

4.142^2= 0 + 2× 9.8×S2

17.14=19.6×S2

S2=0.874m

The height the acorn fell from=S2+ 2.07m

=2.07+0.874

=2.944m
