Answer:

x = 3 , x = 7

Explanation:

3(x - 5)² - 17 = - 5 ( add 17 to both sides )

3(x - 5)² = 12 ( divide both sides by 3 )

(x - 5)² = 4 ( take square root of both sides )

x - 5 = ±
√(4) = ± 2 ( add 5 to both sides )

x = 5 ± 2

then

x = 5 - 2 = 3

x = 5 + 2 = 7
