The following are the ages (years) of 5 people in a room: 23, 13, 17, 12, 15 A person enters the room. The mean age of the 6 people is now 22. What is the age of the person who entered the room?

Explanation:

The formula for calculating mean = sum of each data / total number

Let the age of the sixth person be x , then

mean = 23 + 13 + 17 + 12 + 15 + x / 6

That is :

22 = 23 + 13 + 17 + 12 + 15 + x / 6

22 =
(80+x)/(6)


80+ x = 22 x 6


80 + x = 132


x = 132 - 80


x = 52
