Tammy spent 2/5 of her savings on a watch. She then spent 1/6 of the remainder on a bag. What fraction of her money did she have left?​

She had 17/30 of her money left.

To find out how much she has left, you have to figure out how much she spent.

2/5 + 1/6= how much she spent.

To figure out how much she spent out of a whole, you have to find a common denominator for the fractions. The lowest common denominator for these fractions is 30.

Then, convert the fractions. This will give you:

2/5= 12/30

To get a denominator of 30, multiply the denominator by 6, and whatever you do to the bottom you do to the top, so multiply 2 by 6 and you’d get 12.

1/6= 5/30

To get a denominator of 30, multiply it by 5, as well as the numerator to get 5. This will equal 5/30.

Now, to get the total amount of money spent, add these two numbers together.

12/30 + 5/30= 17/30

Since this fraction cannot be simplified, it’s the final answer.
