Sarah wants to make a quilt that is 6 feet wide and 8 feet long. She is patching together 4-inch sided squares of fabric to make the quilt. How many patches of fabric will Sarah need?

Answer:

Well lets first calculate the areas of both quilts.

The first quilt area: LxW, so 6x8=48

48 ft^2

Square Quilt Area: S^2

So 4x4=16 inches^2

16 square inches= 1.333 ft.

So 1.333x=48

x=36

We need 36 square quilts to make up the large quilt.
