using equation of motion


v^2 = u^2 + 2 g h


0^2 = u^2 - 2* 9.8 * 0.49

now, calculating time he take to reach at the highest point

v = u + g t

0 = 3 - 9.8 x t

9.8 t = 3

t = 0.31 s

Time it will be in air will be twice the time it took to reach to the maximum height.
