Why might city areas have a higher temperature than rural areas?

Answer:

Maybe because of lacking of flora, trees and other that absorb sun's radiation and heat.

Also in city are way to much materials like concrete and asphalt that absorb heat and release it very slow and keep temperature high for a longer time.
