Fraction of students were not wearing brown or black shoes is
(1)/(5).

Solution:

Given data:

Total number of students = 10

Number of students wearing brown shoes = 1

Number of students wearing black shoes = 7

Number of students not wearing brown or black = 10 โ€“ 1 โ€“ 7 = 2

Fraction of students not wearing brown or black

$=\frac{\text{Number of students not wearing brown or black}}{\text{Total number of students}}

$=(2)/(10)

$=(1)/(5)

Hence fraction of students were not wearing brown or black shoes is
(1)/(5).
