Judy (mass 45.0 kg), standing on slippery ice, catches her leaping dog, Atti (mass 10 kg), moving horizontally at 4.0 m/s. Use the conservation of momentum to find the speed of Judy and her dog after the catch. (m/s)

Answer:

velocity of Judy and dog after collision will be 0.7272 m./sec

Step-by-step explanation:

Mass of the Judy
m_1=45kg

As the Judy is standing so initial velocity of Judy
v_1=0m/sec

Mass of dog Atti
m_2=10kg

Velocity of Atti
v_2=4m/sec

We have to fond the velocity of Judy and dog after collision

Now according to conservation of momentum

Momentum before collision is equal to momentum after collision

So
m_1v_1+m_2v_2=(m_1+m_2)v

45* 0+10* 4=(45+10)* v

v = 0.7272 m/sec

So velocity of Judy and dog after collision will be 0.7272 m./sec
