Fundamental counting principle can be used to determine the number of permutations of n objects.

E.g: If you have to arrange 3 letters A, B, C in 3 slots..Then there are 3 choices for first slot, two choices for 2nd slot and one choice for last slot , so there are 3*2*1=6 ways to arrange the letters, which is equal to the number of permutations to n distinct objects.
