Answer:

21 eggs per month

Explanation:

To determine the greatest average number of eggs per month laid by Drakestail over a 5-month period, we need to find the period with the highest total number of eggs and then calculate the average.

From observation of the graph, we can see that from March to June, Drakestail laid four out of the top five highest monthly counts. Therefore, this 4-month span should be part of our 5-month selection.

As the chicken laid 14 eggs in February, and 15 eggs in July, the period of 5 consecutive months when it laid the most eggs is March to July.

The number of eggs laid in each of these months was:

  • March = 21
  • April = 23
  • May = 22
  • June = 24
  • July = 15

To find the average number of eggs per month laid, divide the sum of these numbers by the number of months:

\sf Average=(21 + 23 + 22 + 24 + 15)/(5)=21\;eggs\;per\;month

Therefore, the greatest average number of eggs per month laid by Drakestail during a period of 5 consecutive months is 21 eggs per month.
