first you distribute
17(a) - 17(15) = 153
then solve what you can
17(a) - 255 = 153
then add to cancel out the subtraction
17(a) - 225 = 153
+225 +225
17(a) = 378
then divide
17(a) = 378
/17 /17
a= 22.2352941
a= 22.2
