3x = 16 - 5x

3(-8) = 16 - 5(-8)

-24 = 16 + 40

-24 ≠ 56......no, -8 is not a solution

3x = 16 - 5x

3x + 5x = 16

8x = 16

x = 16/8

x = 2 ............2 is the correct answer
