Answer:

2 4/15

Explanation:

  1. Change both fractions to improper fractions
  • Multiply the denominator by the whole number then add the numinator
  • Keep the denominator for the final answer
  • So 4 2/3 = 3×4+2/3 => 14/3
  • 2 2/5 = 2×5+2/5 =>12/5

2. Find a common multiple for both denominators and multiply to get it( numerators should be multiplied by the same number as denominators)

  • 14/3 + 12/5 = (14×5 -12×3)/15(a common multiple)
  • (70-26)/15 = 34/15
  • Change the improper fraction(result) to a mixed fraction
  • To do this: divide numerator by the denominator, write result as a whole number, then put the remainder over the denominator (fraction)
  • 34÷15 = 2 remainder 4
  • =2 4/15
